It's All About Facebook!

Minghua Yu's Facebook page
The first day I went to Harry Ainlay Hish School, a person asked me if I had a Facebook account. I will never forget how surprise she was when I said "NO" to her. So I created mine after school, but honestly, except chatting with friends, what else did I do with it? Who knows that I can even find jobs by creating a professional  business page!

It took me a while to figure out what it really means by "business profile". You provide all your information like what jobs you are looking for and post your professional resume and cover letter as looking for a job in real life, but in a more convenient way. It can save paper and time.

People do not have too much time to sit together, chat and know more about each other because everyone has their own business. So in my opinion, the best way to solve this problem is to view their blogs and Facebook to know what they are thinking and interested in. I looked at my friend Stephanie's blog and find out she is a really hard-working person. She almost wrote everything she could and even added some dietitian's websites because she is learning food and nutrition. With the social communication media blog, I can learn what she did better than me.

When creating the business profile, I do not have a professional picture so that I used a photo related to Food -- and that is what I am learning and interested in right now. As time goes by, I will add more contents in to improve it. And if other people are confused with how to create a Facebook page, here is a link to see: http://www.squidoo.com/facebookpage

A New Start

Hello! My name is Minghua Yu and I’m preferred to be called as Candi. Before, I looked up a lot of other people’s blogs, but never think about creating my own one! I think this is a new start and I am definitely looking forward to learning more skills!

I’m a second year student with a Bachelor of Science in Food and nutrition major. During the past, I thought as a student, I only need to attend all the lectures, read textbooks, work hard throughout terms and get high grades so that I would be success. However, after taking ALES 204, I realized how wrong I was and how important the role of communication is in all fields of study, not only in food and nutrition! I started to use Twitter and now blogs, feels like the whole world is getting smaller and going faster than before. As an International Student, I am weak at language skills comparing to local students. I was nervous and shy, afraid that other people will tease me if I said something wrong, so that’s why I don’t like to do presentations.

Because I’m only a second year student so that I’m not quite sure about my future careers yet, but whatever I will do is connected with communications. Assume that I will be a food scientist so that I will investigate the chemical, physical and sensory nature of food, processing, preserving, packaging etc, it is important to keep in touch with other people doing the same job as me, or even economists and managers. I sometimes discuss the future possible careers with my friend Manjiang and I found that was really meaningful. It is useless if I have new ideas but don’t communicate with others.

It is only a beginning like the picture a new day I posted below. Really hope that I will have improvements in the field of communication. Keep fighting and never give up! Thanks for listening.
